"TGfU and The Spectrum of Teaching Styles" Webinar
In this webinar they use The Spectrum of Teaching Styles (The Spectrum: Mosston, 1966; Mosston & Ashworth, 2008) to identify the teaching styles used to implement the 6-step TGFU model as a cluster of teaching styles which may include, but is broader than guided discovery, problem solving, or discovery teaching styles. They clarify TGfU as directed at student discovery and problem solving by explaining that asking students questions may not be guided discovery, or any other type of discovery process. Depending on the objective of the teaching episode, discovery of new understanding may not be the operant behaviour the teacher is seeking or being used by the students. They believe that it is important to explain that TGfU and game-based approaches (GBA’s) generally are a cluster of teaching styles, and not a style (SueSee et al., 2016; SueSee et al., 2020), as lessons and coaching sessions using a GBA are episodic (Pill et al., 2021).

Webinar 3- Games Sense Approach and a cultural interfaceSpeakers:
Presented on behalf of Dr. John Williams who unfortunately was unable to join us on the day. Content: For the first time that we are aware, in a two different five-week Games and Sport units of work we examined how a game-based approach in Physical Education (PE) can be used to implement a cultural interface. The purpose of both projects included addressing the Australian Curriculum’s Cross-curriculum Priority: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Cultures requirement in PE using a Game Sense approach (Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority, 2020). Both studies used games from the Yulunga resource. The project with cohort of Year 7 PE teachers used Yunkaporta’s (2009) 8 Ways Aboriginal Pedagogy Framework. The game of Parndo was explored, being the local traditional game of the Kaurna people where the project was conducted. Teachers learnt how a cultural interface may deepen student’s cultural competency and sport literacy in games and sport by learning ‘in’, ‘though’, ‘about’ movement in PE (Arnold, 1979). The second project, with Year 5 students, used the Game Sense approach to teach the game Buroinjin, a ball game played by the Kabi Kabi people of south Queensland. We suggest that these projects ‘bring to life’ Whatman and Meston’s (2016) suggestion that traditional Indigenous games, when taught with authenticity and educative meaning, provide opportunity for PE teachers to educate technical and tactical games skills, and cultural sensitivity to de-colonise the PE curriculum (Pill et al., 2021). Webinar 4- Promoting Justice, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (JEDI) through GBA in PE- Practical ImplicationSpeakers:
Content: This webinar introduces the on-going project on promoting Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (JEDI) through Game-based Approach (GBA), particularly focusing on the implication of GBA in Physical Education lessons to foster JEDI. We start with a brief introduction of why GBA can be effective to teach JEDI using Butler's (2016) Democracy in Action and a Social Justice Education framework (Hackman, 2005) following by a few examples of how games can be modified and how questions/critical dialogue can be facilitated by a teacher during a JEDI in GBA lesson Recorded: 25th June 2022 Webinar Slides:

Global Lesson Study
The Global Lesson Study (GLS) is a professional development opportunity for teachers from multiple countries. Lesson Study is a simple idea: If you want to improve your instruction, what could be more obvious than collaborating with fellow teachers to plan instruction and examine its impact on students? In Lesson Study, teachers bring their own questions to the table and seek answers from one another, from outside specialists and research, and from careful study of students.

'Commonalities and Differences among the Various GBAs' Symposium
In this symposium, we would like to cover various GBA approaches associated with TGfU, including identifying their concrete forms, achievements and challenges, and provide attendees with an opportunity to think about the future implementation of each GBA in school education. We will be hearing from leading experts on each of the GBAs and then provide an open forum for discussion.

"The Joy in Inventing Games" Webinar
The Inventing Games model was developed by Dr Joy Butler to provide a framework for teachers who are keen to use the IG approach to teach students the inherent qualities of games. Not only does the IG experience result in a better understanding of game structures and game play, students also learn about self and others (Butler, 2016). As an offshoot of Teaching Games for Understanding, the IG approach shares similar pedagogical principles (tactical complexities, modification through representation, exaggeration and adaptation). But the focus on SEL and 21 Century Competencies made the IG Model an attractive teaching strategy to teach students through games. In this webinar, the presenter will share how he has adapted the IG model to teach a class of 12 year-olds to invent their own games, his observations on student learning, and why he feels strongly that IG should be in all PE curriculum.

"Learner-oriented teaching and assessment in GBAs" Webinar Series
This webinar series provides sport educators with a learner-centred instructional toolkit to empower children and young people in collaborative, independent learning of GBAs. This webinar series brings together the various pedagogical dimensions inherent to the teaching-learning process of GBAs: the instructional system (teaching strategies), the social system (interactional climate), the task system (learning tasks and activities), and the assessment (for learning) system. It also shows how to effectively involve learners as active agents in promoting more democratic learning environments and equitable interactions between sportspersons.
