We are excited to announce that 2022 is the 40th anniversary of the publication of the Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) model. Throughout the year, we celebrated the field of game-based approaches with a variety of events and initiatives.

Special Blogs and ResourcesEach month we showcased different models/approaches with the game-based approaches field. We discussed the models, developments in their field and future directions. We also aimed to create some practical resources for you to use (where we could). Further special blogs will be created in 2023 to cover as many of the models/approaches as we can. 40th Anniversary ConferenceTo conclude our anniversary year, we are hosting an online conference with keynote speakers, theme room discussions and a roundtable discussion with a panel of GBA experts. We also have on demand sessions where members of our community can present their work. For full details click here NTG EventIn partnership with our colleagues in the Netherlands, the Network Teaching Games (NTG) organised a symposium ‘Game-Based Approaches Globally’ on the 8th of April 2022. After an opening keynote from the TGfU SIG chair elect, Jeroen Koekoek, we travelled around the world digitally with our participants and provided them with inspiring insights into the different GBA models/philosophies across the Globe.

PE Matters ArticleThe TGfU Executive Board (Ellen Gambles, Linda Griffin, Shane Pill, David Gutierrez, Alan Ovens and Jeroen Koekoek) wrote an article for the Association for PE (AfPE), PE Matters journal. They discussed the TGfU model, history, developments and the 40th anniversary celebrations. This was published in the 2022 Spring Edition.
