5/26/2011

Four recognized scholars and practitioners of game centred approaches to teaching in PE have been invited to share their insights on games teaching in PE.

·      Joy Butler:  Will there be a time when the TGfU movement has served its purpose?

·      Len Almond: The Craft of the Teacher in TGFU

·      Wendy Piltz:  Play practice framing the teaching practice for game centered learning

·      David Kirk:  The normalization of innovation, models-based practice, and sustained curriculum renewal in PE.

As an experiment the TGfU sig plans to broadcast this presentation to TGfU sig members on Thursday June 23rd 2.00 to 3.15 pm GMT + 1 hour.

More details to follow....

Perhaps it is time for a general recognition of a theory of practice for sport related games teaching; and that the theory of practice retains common pedagogical elements in its expression and design, regardless of 'model'?

Hello, my name is Kanae Haneishi (JAPAN) from University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA).
I am also presenting about game-centered learning in "coaching" on Saturday, June 25 at the 3:00pm -4:15pm oral presentation sessions.
I would love to have many of you there!

Great to see that Kanae is doing a practical game-centered session. It will be nice to connect her session to the ideas developed in the panel. Maybe with her permission and participants we can stream some insights from the practical session. What is the title of your session Kanae?

Shane

It will be interesting to explore further "a theory of practice for sport related games teaching." Maybe first we need to separate the notions of "model" and "theory." What is a model? How does a theory relate to a model? Models and theories both seem to imply a way of predicting what or rather interpreting what happens when learning games, but maybe a model implies procedures more specific to games teaching and theory is more general to human learning. Any thoughts??
Seems this idea might connect well to Almond's and Kirk's talks.

Hi Tim
Poor audio quality meant that I haven't been able to consider the ideas presented by the panel when I looked at TimTV today. My thoughts are something like
Learning theory - constructivist
Theory of practice - dynamic skill acquisition
Model - Game Sense
Thoughts??
