Hi everyone,

From the TGfU SIG (Teaching Games for Understanding Special Interest Group) we propose to create short videos (less than 5 minutes) of super-small side games (invasion, net and wall, field and bat, or target) that could be played at home. The objective is to keep people physically and mentally active; particularly for the students who are without Physical Education or after-school sports due to COVID-19.

As we are designing modified games for home, we will also have to overcome the spatial and equipment limitations, as well as having a very small number of players, and possibly of different ages and skill level. You will have to do it with high doses of creativity and UNDERSTANDING. For the videos to be of high educational quality, we propose that the following key TGfU / ECD elements should be maintained:
  • "Playable" games: games that do not have great technical limitations and that allow the student to really play from the beginning.
  • The game must be, above all, a problem, which highlights the component of decision-making above the motor difficulty.
  • Game + reflect + Game. Once the kids have experienced the game and understands its rules, ask guided discovery questions that focus their thinking to solve the different problems that occur during the game, both defensive and offensive, on and off the ball.

We propose the following scheme for the video:
  • Presentation: name of the game
  • Explanation of the basic rules of the game (the secondary ones can remain unexplained, they can either be intuited when watching the video or they are left for the players to agree on, which is also very educational)
  • Questions for guided discovery
  • Possible modifications for
  • Use other spaces or materials
  • Players with different skill levels

The easiest way to spread them will be to upload them to YouTube, Twitter or Instagram including the tag #TGfU_athome in the title.

Also, to be able to centralize and spread them through TGfU SIG channels, you can send the video link to this address: TGfUathome@gmail.com. This initiative is an adaptation of the TGfU Video Tutorial Library Project developed by the TGfU Advisory International Board of the TGfU SIG.
