Biography

Mr. Kam Wai Keung Kevin was a football player and was inspired by his coach and teachers to be a Physical Education (PE) teacher. He completed his PE teacher training at Northcote College of Education. He holds a Bachelor of Education (Honours) degree from the University of Liverpool and a Master of Education degree from the University of Hong Kong. He graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the University of Queensland, which seeks to explore the professional development of beginning PE teachers in Hong Kong through qualitative research. Kevin joined the Education University of Hong Kong in 1998. He was the Assistant Secretary-General of the 3rd Teaching Games for Understanding International Conference 2005 held in Hong Kong. Kevin specializes in the pedagogy and professional development culture of PE teachers and coaches. He is teaching Curricular and pedagogical studies in PE. He can also teach various sports skills, like soccer, golf, and physical fitness. His other academic interests include outdoor experiential learning, service learning, promoting wellness concepts in the community, and teaching soccer and golf.

Kevin is currently the Associate Head of Department (Learning and Teaching) and a Field Experience Coordinator for the programme of Bachelor of Education (Honours) in PE and Post-graduate Diploma in Education (Primary) and (Secondary), Physical Education. He has an established track record in developing professional development of PE teachers by researching the use of different teaching and curriculum models, developing a learning community by organizing PE teacher conference, and professional development by action research in physical education. He recently developed a new innovative professional development programme on STEM in PE for PE teachers. The membership of the TGfU provides an international impact on the development of TGfU from Hong Kong PE teachers. He is also currently the Secretary of Hong Kong PE Association.

Mission Statement

With the previous successful work had been done by Dr. LIU, Raymond, Dr. LI, Chung, and Dr. CRUZ, Alberto, I believe TGfU is one of the essential teaching models in teaching PE. Our mission is to nurture quality PE teachers and develop innovative and strategic development in teaching PE in Hong Kong. In achieving such a mission, we are obliged to create a professional learning community in Hong Kong in teaching PE and sports coaching with the domain of pedagogical development by using TGfU in schools and different sports, as well as building up relationships with PE teachers and sports coaches as a professional learning community through collaborative research, conferences, lessons for analysis and, publications.
I would be more than happy to connect the Hong Kong PE and coaches community to the world professional community by sharing the research and practices on TGfU.
